If you ever need a heightened sense of our dystopian present, attend an Atari Teenage Riot show. Certainly the long-running German trio — now consisting of Alec Empire, Nic Endo and Rowdy Superstar — has had progress in its sights for a long time. The group began in Berlin in 1992 as a proactive response against neo-Nazism in Germany and has been fighting the good fight through techno-juiced hardcore (and strobe lights!) off and on for two decades. (The band took a decade-long hiatus in 2001 after the death of founding member Carl Crack before returning last year.) But no length of fandom or YouTube-by-proxies is quite like being in Atari Teenage Riot‘s present presence: through hyperreal energy and palpable political resolve, the group acts as cheerleaders for resistance, and the constant indictments of skewed global politics are actually transformative. We’re living in a time of tumult, but ATR’s imagining a better future, if we want it. The crux of their music, battering, insistent, and of the rabble, is just a reminder that along the path there, chaos is tantamount. And fun.

With the immersion of Dim Mak’s finest at Insomniac’s Beyond Wonderland, there were too many memorable portions of the night; from Autoerotique’s debut of several unreleased tracks, to Felix Cartal getting 10,000 fans to sing along to “Don’t Turn On The Lights”, we could only close things out with a bang — literally. Steve Aoki brought out the friend and collaborative drummer, Travis Barker to perform their latest single “Cudi The Kid” off Wonderland.
Some of you might not know this but Steve started out in the Hardcore punk scene. Actually the first ever dim mak release was a hardcore ep. After releasing A hardcore single with Bob Rifo as Rifoki his Album Wonderland was a logical step to again introduce part of his roots Amsterdam’s Sick Boy also came from a background of loud guitars so when the two decided to collaborate on “The Kids will have their say” it was inevitable that it would be a loud in your face track with a punk influenced attitude.
What would be cooler then having people play on it that influenced Generations of kids to pick up a guitar or drumsticks? Here’s a Lil info on “Big” John and Erik, the guitarplayer and drummer on the track.

After listening to hours of submissions from remixers around the world, Joachim Garraud and Alesia have come to a final choice for the ‘Nox’ Remix Contest, and the winning remix comes from the Electro-heavy trio out of Sao Paolo known as Titanoz. In their rendition, the guys of Titanoz took ‘Nox’ on a maximal, grungy, Electro journey that truly stood apart from all other submissions yet stuck to the original elements of ‘Nox’ at the same time.
The second place remix comes from Londoner, Anarchystep, who brought ‘Nox’ to a new level with his wall-shaking Drumstep take on the original.
Joachim Garraud and Alesia would like to congratulate Titanoz on this great remix and thank each and every remixer for sending in their submissions. Keep an eye out for the Nox EP release out on Dim Mak Records this May!
