This Winter, DIM MAK RECORDS is proud to announce the signing of upstart West Palm Beach rapper, WILL BRENNAN. In celebration of the signing, VIBE will feature the world premiere for Will Brennan’s Dim Mak debut mixtape “MORE PERFECT UNION”. The mixtape features a variety of production notables from Pretty Lights, Zeds dead, Kaskade, Deadmau5, Xaphoon Jones, Julian Cruz, Araabmuzik and Heroes x Villains.

http://www.vibe.com/article/vibe-exclusive-dim-maks-latest-recruit-will-brennan-live-stream

The first from the mixtape, “All Of The Pretty Lights” breezes in with Rihanna’s hook and Pretty Lights’ beat butchering, and then, Brennan comes in punching with his natural knack for rhymes. “Going Through Under The Sheets” samples Wales singer Ellie Goulding’s electropop single, while Brennan flutters in with a deftly timed flow. Brennan delivers a short narrative on top of a genre-bending take of Warwicks “I Say A Little Prayer For You”, chopped by Zeds Dead. Bravados are not missing from the mixtape, “Remember To Fall In Love” and “Get By With The Golden Touch”, pull in Brennan’s strong suit for fearless flows.

Will Brennan embodies the charisma, versatility and flow-skill to bring a new kind of personality to the rap game. Brennan has supported rap titans like Kendrick Lamar, J. Cole, B.O.B., Yela- Wolf, Big Sean, Wiz Khalifa, Dom Kennedy and Wale. Dim Mak will be releasing Brennan’s “PRODIGAL SON” with additional remixes early 2013.

Interlude Presents: TRUST & The Faint (Interview + Free Download)

December 19, 2012 Tim Gauthier Blog, News Tags: , , , , , ,

Photography by Krystal Mora

This December installment of Interlude features artists from a tour tandem, TRUST & The Faint. Interlude rounds up live photos from their November show at L.A.’s Henry Fonda Theatre and an interview with TRUST’s dreamy frontman, Robert Alfons.  We would like to hook it up with a Holiday gift, a free download of The FaintEvil Voices“.

Interlude Presents: Robert Alfons of TRUST

Lets start with a little game of word association. I say a word and you say whatever comes to mind:
⁃    Candy – Candy walls
⁃    Pockets – Overalls
⁃    Glass – Candy

I saw you took a traditional photo with Santa Claus, what did you ask for this Christmas ?
Actually, he didn’t even ask me… But if he did, I think I would want new mits. Every year I lose my mits and I want new, knitted gray ones.

Do you have any plans for NYE?
As of now, no. I usually just kind of hide, its quite overwhelming and ridiculous. Hopefully, it will just be a nice cozy, internal sort of evening. That’s what I would hope for.

Does the winter season have a particular effect on your creative process?
Being on tour, every day is a different season. There isn’t sort of any level of complaint, its just more of my mind and its chemistry doesn’t understand the pace of whats going on. One day its snowing and the next day its sunny and warm. Its definitely a ride.

Would you like to elaborate on the Revolution Recording Piano Version of “Sulk”, directed by Petra Collins?
A lot of my songs start in that form, from the piano. I really wanted to do a video playing them raw. Petra is a friend of mine and I think she is so talented.  It was pretty simple take,  just one camera and the two of us in that room. It was a great experience working with her.

I happened to be visiting my Nana when I watched the “Sulk” video and she absolutely loves you.

Oh I love her already! Aw that’s so sweet!  I want to meet her. I’m close with grandma, great aunt and my sisters. I miss them a lot when I go away. I can’t wait to see them when I get back.

What are you seeing when you are playing on-stage?
Usually everything is pretty black out there. There is no light on the audience, so its like a black void. I get lost and I think that’s good when you perform.

The album cover of TRST has always captivated me. What do you feel you captured in that picture you took at the club?
I think she’s really beautiful and I felt there was a story and a performance to it.  She was fabulous and amazing in every sort of way. She really struck me .

[image img=”http://25.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_ly3xxworZC1r9h2u3o1_500.jpg” alt=”title”/]

What kind of experimentation have you been developing for a more pop aesthetic in the next album ?
Its becoming a lot more upbeat, but I’m still a sucker for ballads. I think the shows have really changed how I am writing at the moment; having a higher energy and experimenting with sounds and rhythms. I’m getting better at drums and bass, and that’s the direction its going.

Will the lyricism have a similar vein of being erotic and ambiguous as the last album?

I don’t know. I guess Ill talk about that in 6 months. I’m still in the depths of it.

What were some highlights from your first visit to Los Angeles or Las Vegas?

The first time I visited LA was in April, for the first show we did and it was excellent. LA is just weird, dirty and scary at times. I would’ve have loved to spend more time there. Las Vegas…its so bizarre there. Its like a dream. The closest thing Ive seen to it was Niagra Falls because of it’s  similar sort of vibe of being neon all night. Las Vegas has a neon glare from the lights, but its an actual gluttonous and heathen reality that I don’t like. The rest of it is gritty to be in the aura of.

What music have you been listening while on tour?

Music appropriate for the road; lots of Burial, The Pet Shop Boys, The Radio Department, and Casket Girls.

What would you be doing if you weren’t making music right now?

Hiding away out in the country. I feel like I need to go on a weeks walk of nature. I know I’ll get that  some time, its just nice to be out on the road right now.

What’s something you want the world to know about you as an artist?

Its okay to DREAM.

Out Now: Dzeko & Torres – Hey EP

“HEY” – Hey is one of Dzeko & Torres first ventures in to the heavier-set realms of EDM. Although keeping aspects of their signature progressive melodies on the breakdowns, the track pulls a full 180 and drops into a hard hitting play of rising leads and grinding basslines. Met with an iconic ‘Hey’ chant, the track never stops building and is guaranteed to keep the crowd chanting along with their hands in the air the whole way through.

“BUPPY” – Still very much a big room track, “Buppy” explores a new sound stylistically for Dzeko&Torres. Its bouncy synth line drop and builders keep the track constantly grooving, designed for waking up the dance floor. On a proper sound system, the rhythmic tribal drums and punchy kick hit you high in your chest and the techy breakdown serves up the perfect opportunity for other EDM producers and DJ’s to get creative with their own edits.

“CHECK THIS OUT” – Check This Out is modern electro take on the old school rave sound. Sampling the famous vocal sample, the track builds with stuttered leads into a breakdown that pays homage to the fantastic melodies of Hardstyle and Happy Hardcore. Continuing to build, the track then drops back into the stuttered grunge, this time topped with a splash of an old school rave horn.

£1 Fish Man – One Pound Fish (O-Fish-Al Video)

December 13, 2012 Tim Gauthier Music, Video Tags: , , , ,

Muhammad Shahid Nazir, now known as £1 Fish Man, moved to London’s East End having left his native Pakistan and his wife and four children to discover a better life for them all. Working on a market stall selling fish, Nazir needed a trader’s call to grab passing trade. His song became the stuff of legend and a viral sensation: “Have-a, have-a look, one pound fish. Very, very good, very, very cheap, one pound fish.”

After a video of him was uploaded to YouTube, Nazir saw himself accelerated into the spotlight: he auditioned on the X-Factor, saw his ‘£1 Fish Song’ covered separately bysuperstar producer Timbaland and singer Alesha Dixon and was profiled by the Evening Standard who declared: “Watch out Psy, you’ve got a rival” and The Sun who stated: “It might just be the Christmas No. 1.”

Do you buy into any of the conspiracy theories about doomsday, or is the title of your new EP, It’s the End of the World As We Know It, your way of having fun with it?

I love conspiracy theories. I think they are fun. It’s fun to think of all these crazy things that might happen. It’s part of the adventure—you’re supposed to take it to these wild places. If it’s the end of the world, let’s go out with a bang, you know. That’s the point. We’re only here for so long, so make the most of your life.

And for the album?

Throughout the year, I’ve been touring like crazy, so I haven’t had too much time to sit down in my own studio and come up with a major concept, so that’s why I was like, okay, it’s the end of the world, 2012, let’s put these three songs together. It’s three different collaborations I did with different producers, so I figured we’ll pack it all together. I produced them at different times throughout the year, so there were different influences and sounds in each song.

What was it like collaborating with different people for each track? Can you break down each one for us?

The first song I did with Annger Dimas; I always work together with this guy. He’s one of my really good friends, and we have really great chemistry working together in the studio. I got Kay (of My Name Is Kay) on that record to amp it up a bit more and make it a bit more vocal obviously. I’ve been dropping that record since Ultra. That’s where I debuted the song, and now it’s finally coming out.

As far as “Omega,” we got Dan Sena on it and we got Miss Palmer, who also sang on “No Beef,” and it’s one of the more commercial-sounding records and I’m really happy with that one.

“Transcend” is a record I started with Rune RK actually over a year ago. We were in the studio together, in the UK, and we rented a studio out there to do some work together. The song transformed and transcended into the song it became, so that’s why it’s called “Transcend.”

Singularity – PeaceTreaty’s ‘In Time’ Beatport Play Contest Winner!

December 11, 2012 Tim Gauthier Music Tags: , , , , ,

When it came to remixing PeaceTreaty’s “In Time,” the LA-based producer known as Singularity proved to be the best at taking up the task, nabbing the DCAM: Synth Squad and Tremor soft-synths from FXpansion, $500 worth of gear from Ambig, a pair of Sabre sunglasses, a year-long subscription to Future Music and Computer Music magazines, and the Sounds To Sample Elements Library. But, most importantly of all, Singularity’s version of the song is now set to appear on a forthcoming remix collection from Dim Mak.

“I’m just really glad everyone enjoyed the track as much as I enjoyed making it,” says the SoCal producer. Given the response his rework got, it’s safe to say he had a pretty damn good time making this one.

Congrats again to Singularity, and all other the 350+ plus contestants!!! We’re blown away with all the support. You’ve all done an amazing job with this single.

Le Tigre Blanc is an adventurous pop album that deforms and combines several epochs of rap, R&B, jazz, and rock music, from James Brown-esque grunts and screams, to 90’s New Jack Swing, to modern trap, and even gospel hymns; it is a meta-work of the Internet era, a coming-of-age tale for the posthuman.
