Scanners-Come-To-America Tour Wrap Up! Dim Mak Loves Scanners!!!!
Hello Everyone!
Scanners came to town on July 11th and did a week long tour of the west coast that left a wake of fans in their path and a lot of great memories. I had the great pleasure of touring with them and am glad to present to everyone this special glimpse into what the tour was like. We've compiled a bunch of video that documents the highlights of their trip. Some of it is shot with pro-cameras, but a lot of it is shot by Scanners with their phones. While the phone footage is not the best quality, it displays a personal image of the band that has a quality all unto its own. Read below while Mat Mole from Scanners maps out their tour for you. Monday 10th July
Arrived at LAX in the evening having been finger printed and photographed
several times. Got picked up by Luke and Jacob, two great guys from the
Dim MAk team. Luke drove us through Beverly Hills and Sunset strip to give
us our first taste of LA, and we stopped to have our first taste of proper
hamburger. A bit dazed and confused we crashed at the Dim Mak HQ.
Tuesday 11th July
Had our first 'Hollywood breakfast' on Sunset Bvld. Pancakes..very sweet.
Spent the day sorting out how to convert the British power on our
equipment to American- who said rock n roll was just all fun!!
Went for sound check at Cinespace only to find out we werent gonna get one
after all! Headed back to Dim MAk office to chill on the patio with a
couple of beers and wait for Steve Aoki and Steve from Imeem.com
Had an amazing Japanese meal with Steve and Steve and the biggest bottles
of beer any of us had seen. Jet lag was rearing it's ugly head..no more
beer!
At Cinespace we watched the first half hour of the new movie 'A Scanner
Darkly' then played gig - along with Hourly Radio and Luxxury
Gig was great- people dancing. Aoki in other room dj-ing. Peaches
celebrating her album release. Then all back to Club Dim MAk for a party
till the early hours

Wednesday 12th July
After not much sleep we were off to Warner Brothers. Had a bigger meeting
than we were expecting with about 10 Warner Bro employees. All were very
nice about album. They let us help ourselves to any albums we wanted from
their vaults... We came out with two boxes.Then we met up with a friend
for more Japanese food.
Got to soundcheck at Club Moscow at 6pm. The jet lag was reaching its peak
and we all felt like shit. Sarah had an interview with Swindle magazine-
half way through the interview she found out it was about fashion NOT
music. It was a brief interview.
Before the gig we went to the famous Chinese Theatre and saw the hand and
foot prints of the movie stars. After a lot of searching Sarah eventually
found Marilyns which made her day.
After a bit of ID agro..they are vvv strict about it in the US- we did
gig at Club Moscow. Its a cool looking place - like a gothic castle. We
played outside with lots of candles everywhere. Really enjoyed the gig.

Thursday 13th July
Left early for San Francisco. It was a hot 6 hr drive on Route 5. It's a
beautiful city. We were playing at Popscene (indie night club [run by Aaron Axelsen of Live 105]) After
soundcheck we had a fantastic Italian Meal in North Beach with Roy the
soundman and Popscene bar manager Josh. Two bottles of Chianti later we
went to a famous bookstore where Allen Ginsberg used to read his work. Got
to Popscene at 11.30 for gig. Rockin gig. Everyone dancing. Supposed to
crash at a girls house that night but we end up some posh hotel..result.

Friday 14th July
We get up and set off to see the sights of San Francisco. We drove over
the Golden Gate Bridge which was, unfortunately, completely covered in fog-
then off to Haight and Ashbury to look at the shops. Have a famous San
Francisco Buritto in the late evening - then head back to Hollywood. Even
after 6hours on the free way, Luke (on a caffine buzz) takes us up into
the Hollywood hills to see the view at 4 in the morning.

Saturday 15th July
No more gigs until Monday but we got photo shoots instead. We went to this
kooky little studio/appartment owned by Jeff Electric with bullet holes
through the door. We did two shoots with brilliant photographer Dan Monick
for Swindle and YRB Magazines. He took some shots on the stairs where
Laurel and Hardy filmed their famous short 'The Music Box'!!!
Amina had got bitten by some mosquito or flea and the bites had got
infected. She had to be taken to a Doctor in the end as the infection got
so bad it was difficult for her to walk. This made it more difficult to
get some of the things we needed to do done. Luckily she had health
insurance.
Steve Aoki was dj-ing at the club LAX. So we went down for a bit minus a
sick Amina...then we went to a warehouse party but like everything in LA
it all closed early. We met up with Steve later at Dim MAk HQ and we
stayed up all night drinking vodka Luke had stashed away somewhere.

Sunday 16th July
Went to Ameoba Music store and got some records. Then drove up to the
Hollywood sign for a photo shoot with girl skating magazine Check It Out Mag, and met three lovely girls Liza, Mandy and Ana-Paula. It was hot in the hills but the views were amazing.
We hadn't seen the beach yet so we squeezed into the lovely Heather Pegg's
car and drove to a restaurant on the beach for some seafood and Mai-Tai's
at Dukes. Got to see the Pacific for the first time and eat really well,
and all on the Beatles, thanks guys.

Monday 17th July
We knew this was going to be a busy day. We have two gigs and a radio show
to do. But first we had a photo shoot for Dim Mak clothing line wearing
Dim Mak T-shirts with photographer Ronnie and Russ. Luke stood in the road
diverting traffic with his arms crossed like some kinda superhero. Then
we took a trip to Adidas in Santa Monica and we helped ourselves to lots
and lots of clothes which was good as all our old stuff needed a wash.
Back in the car and straight to Star Shoes for first soundcheck of the
day. This was for the gig we were playing at The Rakes' aftershow party.
Then off to the famous Troubadour for the second soundcheck. Very excited
at playing at such a historic place. We were first on supporting The
Rakes. Had a really good gig. Great crowd. Couldn't stay to see the rest
off the show cos we were off to Indie 103.1 radio to perform a couple of
songs on Danny Masterson's show 'Feel My Heat'. We played 'In My Dreams' and 'Air164' with acoustic guitar. The team there were really nice and we were really happy with our performances.
We got to Star Shoes really late. The place was packed. The keyboards
weren't working cos of technical sound guy issues which cut our set in
half. The gig was a hot and sweaty and everyone rocked out.
Once again everyone came back to Club Dim Mak till late. Again we did not
get to sleep till past six in the morning. Maybe never getting any sleep
will help us avoid jet lag when we get back to the UK. We'll have to
see...

The week seems to go by faster and faster. There's always something kerrazzzy happening. If i did drugs id be in baaad shape. luckily im just a cheap date. Two drinks maybe one more and im GOOOOOD. Ok Scanners survived Los Angeles and San Francisco - they did Cinespace Tuesdays then Moscow on Wednesday then Pop Scene on Friday then three photo shoots for Swindle, Dim Mak Collection, & Check it Out Magazine then played three gigs on Monday. We officially signed them on Dim Mak and we are all very excited.
First with a sold out show with another Dim Mak artist THE RAKES
an acoustic set at Danny Masterson and Brent Bolthouse's "FEEL MY HEAT" on Indie 103.1
then later for the The Rakes Afterparty at Starshoes w/ DJ Kid Jeans - Danny Masterson and myself.
and we all ended up at the Dim mak/Cobrasnake HQ for a night cap before The Rakes & Scanners had to fly back to London.

So Comicon is happening down in San Diego and I'll be djing a party at Belo down there to support the new release of Level 5's new vinyl figure of none other than BRUCE LEE in Game of Death. Dim Mak has now since collaborated with Level 5 and they asked us to present their newest vinyl figure to the world. It makes perfect sense for us, after all, I decided on the name Dim Mak 10 years ago based on my obsession with Bruce Lee. It's a perfect fit. The new Bruce Lee vinyl figure will come with a Dim Mak Records sampler and our imprint inside the nunchuckus booklet. All hail Bruce Lee...
I fly out the next day to dj for buddies WE SC for their fashion show in the Hamptons. Then back to LA on Monday for super star buddies GNARLS BARKLEY's official afterparty at a private event. Tuesday at Cinespace we have YOUNG LOVE performing... This is the singer from the band RECOVER except they are really fucking good. Well its just him but they are pretty fucking killer and are on Ultragrrrl's label Stolen Transmissions. Go Sarah L & Rob Stevenson! They are playing with LOLA RAY who are also from NYC and rocked the DIM MAK SHOWCASE at CMJ. Two great bands from the east coast playing at Cinespace.. In the front room will be the ever illustrious THEM JEANS and special guest djs BLUE GEMZ & BLAKE MILLER from MOVING UNITS/WEIRD SCIENCE. Blake will drop our newest Weird Science remixxxx out on the dance floor this TUESDAY of YOUNG LOVE's "DISCOTECH"!!! It'll knock your knees on the floor. I'll be djing at TAO in the VEnetian in Las Vegas for a BODOG POKER AFTERPARTY. Then i Fly back to NYC for my residency at MARQUEE Friday I come back to Chicago to dj at DARK WAVE DISCO at SONOTHEQUE This will be my second time at Dark Wave Disco and im pretty pscyched about being back. Then i come home to LAlaland for HOT LAVA LAX next saturday. Let's party!

My frequent flyer miles are getting pretty nice. And let me tell you, when you become an elite member you can use the first class security lines, get on the plane first, get UPGRADES, and of course my favorite, if you miss a flight - you are the first one on standby no matter how long the line is to get on.... Soo gooood. So last week was Las Vegas at Foundation Room in the Mandalay Bay.
**** THIS WEEK --OOHHHHHH WOW! IT S GOOOOD!!!!!
This week is looooadded. Scanners somehow survived LA. And we have 4 bands on tour... All tour dates links to BLOC PARTY, THE RAKES, FROM MONUMENT TO MASSES, SCANNERS below. Tonight is jusss too much stuff for LA to handle ... besides Pharrell performing on the top of a rooftop so close to our office we can see the props hanging off the sides, there is a sold out show at TROUBADOUR tonight for THE RAKES, EVERY MOVE A PICTURE, PROTOKOLL, & SCANNERS It starts at 8 and Scanners play at 8:15 so please make it early. FOr those that live in LA or southern Cali that can not make the show, SCANNERS will be performing acoustically on the best indie show on INDIE 103.1 - Danny Masterson & BRent Bolthouse's FEEL MY HEAT. The show starts at 9pm and Scanners will be playing two acoustic songs at 10pm. DO NOT MISS THIS... record it for your buddies! Then after THE RAKES finish off their first headlining show in LA, we are doing a DIM MAK/V2 afterparty for The Rakes at Star Shoes w/ the final show in America for Scanners - they play at 12 midnight. Danny Masterson and I will be djing together as KID JEANS and The Rakes will be knocking off a couple sets throughout the night as well as Anne Lee who throws the Monday night at Starshoes with Rachel! It's going to be a hot sweaty night tonight! That's just tonight as well. Tomorrow at Cinespace is going to be a FUCKING RAGERRRRR!!! My best buddy Mark CObrasnake turns a big 18 tomorrow on July 18th!! it s almost as cool as The Omen coming out on 6/6/06 but not that cool. I never have fun on July 4rth... It's just one of those holidays that usually blow. but fuck man spending the entire day on a beach djing and partying is brought to a different level. Was kinda surreal but hey, if you are on a beach, fucking live it up right? Lindsay Lohan and I djed for a couple hours.

Last Week: Be Your Own Pet & Whirlwind Heat played at Troubadour so me and cobrasnake went to go support our buddies. DIm Mak recently released the first single "Extra Extra" by Be Your Own Pet that you can order here and Whirlwind Heat's most recent EP "Flamingo Honey" that you can order here.

After the show we held the Be Your Own Pet/Whirlwind Heat dj battle at Cinespace that will resume on the next tour due to too many people making out on the couches... Pop Levi, formerly of Ladytron, performed in the back room to a bunch of goth indie kids and the front room was insane as usual. Pics below. A few hours later i flew out to NYC to dj Paul Sevigny's party at Marquee on wednesday. The next night i djed at Even Further, a new party at Happy Valley on thursdays. AM and Masterson/MomJeans came by and rocked a few songs with me upstairs in the disco ball dj room. The next night I checked out Ruff Club - Amanda Lapour's party with Spencer Product and Denny Le Nimh. There was at least 4 different photographers there. 20 Years from now there will be no problem on the documentation of "our time"... so i guess that's good. Then late night poker began. Started at 4:30AM and ended right before I flew back out to LA at 8AM. Hung in there til the end but lost out to Masterson and AM. Got in to LA slept for a couple hours and then djed Hot Lava @ LAX... LA TO NYC and BACK... Every other week... Now onto this week.
