Rolling Stone Daily Download: ‘Mexico’ by The Scanners

645 645 Tim Gauthier

Screen Shot 2013-02-20 at 1.27.16 PM

“We wrote the song ‘Mexico’ after we toured a few times driving across the U.S. desert. It’s pretty mind blowing if you’re from the U.K. because there is nothing like it there at all. The heat, the space, it’s like another planet. All the time we would be driving near the border and stopping in places like El Paso, but we never made it into Mexico itself,” The Scanners Matthew Mole tells Rolling Stone. “So I suppose it always had some strange romantic appeal to us. I suppose that’s why we were so conscious of being ‘so far from home’.”

This is one you won’t want to miss, so be sure to grab the EP on iTunes, to the right or here.

XLR8R First Listen: Azari & III – Lost In Time (VCO Remix) [FREE DOWNLOAD]

[one_half_last]
Just last week, we shared news of a forthcoming Azari & III remix compilation which features reworks from the likes of Nicolas  Jaar, Disclosure, Jamies Jones, Maceo Plex, Locked Groove, and many other top-shelf producers. Now, we’ve gotten our hands on an exclusive remix of the Canadian outift’s “Lost in Time” track from budding Los Angeles outfit VCO. This sharp and driving take on the tune will actually not be appearing on the aformentioned Remix Album, but will in fact find a spot on Azari & III’s Lost in Time EP when it drops this spring via Dim Mak, after the label releases the other remixes tomorrow. Yes, it’s all a bit confusing, but the essential take home points here are as follows: First, Azari & III have two fresh releases on the way, and second, this freebie is going to add some delectable dancefloor weight to your collection.

Interview Blende

Hi Blende, how are you?
Very well thank you! Getting ready to have some dinner shortly and just going through some promos – music and food, can’t complain!

At Dim Mak we’re still not sure, so please help me out.
Is it pronounced “Blend” or “Blend-e”? And where does the name come from?

To be honest it can be whatever you want it to be. I normally myself say Blend-ay (as in rhyming with grey, day, lay etc..), in Sweden I say Blend-uh (would rhyme with French “lait” or “parfait”) but if someone says blend – e or blend I won’t make a fuss about it.

It’s just a silly name that stuck and doesn’t really mean anything. I couldn’t use Blondie as it was taken so this was the next best thing.. In German though I’ve heard it means a poser who thinks he’s the shit but in reality is a loser. I always liked that meaning as it makes it not very serious, which is exactly what this name is not. The only thing I’m serious about is the way the music sounds

What’s this I hear about you wearing woman’s jeans and loving white wine?
Haha, where did you hear that..? Not to say it’s not true; I once got a pair of jeans from an excess stock box when in New York, meant for a woman but it fit me really well so I just kept it. That’s the only pair I have though so it’s debatable if I do wear women’s jeans. I’m not even sure if I still have them. The white wine thing is true, though. I drink more white wine than water, I think. I don’t really see the issue, although in the UK a lot of people seem to have an issue when you order white wine in a bar or pub. I guess if you’re not drinking lager you’re not a real lad according to the standard, but if that’s how it is I couldn’t care less if I wasn’t one.

What’s your favorite fish dish?
Haha, you’ve done your homework! Black cod is a favourite, japanese style

Do you or does your mum still have the stereo with the two tape decks?
Neither, although I do think it’s in storage somewhere in Stockholm.. Will have to get back to you on this one

Your site http://www.blende.co.uk doesn’t go anywhere…?
I know.. It used to, but the site was taken offline recently due to being updated, which has dragged on a bit now. Will have to get back to you on this one, too

I love Metro Area’s chilled disco vibe. Don’t you?
Who, in his or her (or as we say in Sweden – hen’s) right mind, wouldn’t?

New or old Disco? And why?
Old disco if we’re talking actual disco, but new disco if we’re talking electronic music with a disco twang.

Do you think you’ll go back to live in Stockholm some day?
Perhaps you could act as a tour guide and inspire all the American people to go to Stockholm?

Not a chance. Unless someone would pay me to. Which I guess is what a tour guide gets. So yeah, probably. I’ll take you to see the king, his wife, his mistress and her lover.

When is Synapse coming out? Any other upcoming releases or remixes we should know about? Will you be playing any new stuff at Dim Mak Tuesdays on Tuesday February the 19th?
It’s coming out in a couple of days ago, i.e. the 11th of February. So, it’s available to buy now or download from your nearest pirate bay, whichever you morally prefer. I’ve got a follow up to my last single on Eskimo Recordings in the making, which should hopefully be coming out in the next few months, as well as a bunch of remixes for various artists and labels – including one for you, you lucky dog(s?)!

Finish the sentence: I should come and see Blende at Dim Mak Tuesdays because…
my bucket list wouldn’t be complete without it!

Interview

Hi guys, could you tell me what you’re doing on this very moment?
Josh: Right now I’m actually working on finishing up this disco track that I started the other day and hopefully it gets done tonight. I guess it depends on the groove and how much coffee I have brewing.

You’re busy finalizing your album which is planned to come out on Dim Mak Records. How do you guys feel about the tracks?
Josh: The tracks are coming out great its gunna be quite the relief when this is all done as its been going on for quite a bit and I know everyone is really anxious to hear it. The best part about the creation of this album was exploring our creativeness to make other genres and experiment with all types of production tricks and techniques but adding our own twist to it. We got to work with a lot of great people which was quite humbling and we couldn’t be happier with how these collabs are coming out. In all we are more then excited to show everyone out there how who we are and actually becoming.

Will you be playing some tracks of that album on February 12th at Dim Mak Tuesdays?
Josh: Of course. Thats probably what I am most looking forward to.

What would you do if Steve (Aoki red.) was standing next to you with a cake in his hand?
Josh: It all depends on the cake. Obviously if it was a type of chocolate cake we join in on a very exquisite candle lit dinner but if it’s like strawberry or some crappy cake like that then anything applies.

How did your date with the mysterious PeaceTreaty girl (where you got the name from) go, back in the day? Please describe it to us.
Ummm it was fun. It was definitely a starting point for me in wanting to actually pursue producing. I remember we would always listen to BBC Radio 1 like Kissy Sell Out & Pete Tong every week and I always thought it would be unreal to actually get one of my tracks played on there as I was just starting this out on my own the time. Sure enough it all came true. Its quite amazing to look back and see some of your accomplishments but really you never ever think about it cause your always too busy trying to look ahead.

Finish this sentence: Big room… House 🙂

If you had to pick: Ableton, Logic or FL Studio?
FL Studio but unfortunately we use Logic.

Jameson or Crown?
Double jameson straight on the rocks with a shot of pickle juice.

FREE DOWNLOAD: TAI & Riton – Jack Hammer

Source: Discobelle

We present an exclusive premiere of “Jack Hammer” which is the hard hitting new single from a collaboration between well known London producer Riton, who started DJ’ing in Newcastle at the tender age of 14, and London born but now based in Germany house artist TAI.
This track is based around a pounding beat and what does sound alot like a sampled jackhammer combined with furious, wailing synth stabs and then with the occasional bleepy horns weaved in around the breaks.

TAI is part of the Dim Mak family and has released multiple EP’s on our record label. We’ve also released Riton’s “Ritontime” EP back in 2011. On February 12th TAI will be releasing another EP on Dim Mak called “Tailand”. This EP is a 2-track EP, along with a remix by Peking Duk. You can now pre-order the “Tailand” EP on iTunes.
