Robbie Rivera, born in 1973 in San Juan, Puerto Rico, had his first encounter with music when he was only 10-years-old. Buying records from acts like New Order, Depeche Mode and U2, it wasn’t long before he started spinning records. It was the disco sampled cut “Nothing To Offer” that lead to an endless string of productions that were released on established labels like Subliminal, Filtered, Positiva, Mos, Azuli and Strictly Rhythm.

In the Russian port city of Vladivistok, near the country’s borders with China and North Korea, Proxy was born into a world of relative cultural isolation. No scene from which to emerge. No connections on which to draw. A lone Prodigy show amid hundreds of thousands in Red Square inspired him to crush the masses with synthesizers. A demo submitted to Tiga’s MySpace led to an arranged marriage with Turbo Recordings, a shining Western meritocracy.
Proxy was immediately accepted as a peer by the likes of Soulwax, Tiga, Mr. Oizo and Erol Alkan on the strength of astonishing, severe tracks like “Decoy”, “Dance in Dark” and the beyond-massive instant classic “Raven”. He has also been called upon to remix artists including Moby, The Prodigy, Peaches, ZZT, Digitalism, Boys Noize, and Azari & III. Their respect for his talent also bespeaks a certain degree of fear, much in the way prosperous nations will ally themselves with nuclear superpowers because they know it is in their most basic interest to do so.
As apart of Dim Mak’s #FreeFriday series, we’ve have the latest ‘summer anthem’ with an edit of Jidax – Resistencia, layered to Daft Punk’s forever-relevant “Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger”, reworked by Thomas Gold.

Here is a Mash Up between The Killers “Mr Brightside” and Wolfgang Gartners “Redline” from NY/AC native, Carlos Melange.

… To begin with, Alec Empire has a history with Sony — he’d sued them for copyright infringement after another song was included in a Sony ad without permission, and he settled, still feeling ripped off. Part of his dissatisfaction was hearing his music in a commercial at all.
Now Sony was back in Empire’s life — and asking this time. Empire knew at once what he wanted to do.
“I was actually on the phone and had to slow down my pulse and breathe… so the excitement wouldn’t be audible in my voice.”

JDEVIL commands the underworld. Sliding into the shoes of this nefarious DJ alter ego, the legendary KORN frontman Jonathan Davis conjures up entrancingly evil electro. Originally, I hadn’t planned on attending EDC – but a few days before the festival, my buddy Ryan gave me a proper pep-talk and convinced me to go, further telling me that “I wouldn’t be coming correct, If I didn’t attend”. It was decided, I was all-in for a bender of a weekend (which undoubtedly laid ahead). I reached out to my buddy Keith (Autoerotique), and sorted out credentials, so that I could bring my camera in without hassle. I’ve photographed numerous shows, gigs, festivals, etc…, but I’ve never been to / shot EDC. Naturally, I wanted to do something different with my photographs. A majority of the EDC photos that surface are typically edited in a similar manner, and shot from 1 or 2 perspectives: on stage (behind the dj) or from the crowd (facing the dj). In an effort to mix things up a bit, I decided to shoot the entire festival with my vintage 35mm film camera, while focusing on everything but the dj’s – more of a documentary approach.
Last year I was contacted online by some Anonymous activists regarding the Atari Teenage Riot song “Black Flags”. We collaborated on a viral video project that became a document of activism around the globe from the past six months. People sent in material from student protests in Chile, the Occupy movement, Anonymous and activists in Japan demonstrating against Tepco, the corporation responsible for the nuclear disaster in Fukushima.
