Back in April, Dim Mak Records was proud to be the home of music legend ROMANTHONY for his release “The Wanderer” with Kevin McKay; a chill, laidback track with a handful of incredible remixes. “The Wanderer” was an instant hit with old fans of Romanthony’s and the gateway to his extensive music career for new fans. As you know, ROMANTHONY passed away at the beginning of May, leaving the music industry and thousands of fans shocked and deeply saddened by such a major loss.
Global website RESIDENT ADVISOR sat down with Romanthony’s friend and collaborator, Kevin McKay, for an interview about the legend perhaps most famously known for his work with Daft Punk; but, as McKay explains in the article, Romanthony’s career was far more intense, creative, and profound than many are even aware of. When describing the talent that is Romanthony, McKay had this to say: “He’s really great musically. Brilliant keyboard player, brilliant bass player, brilliant guitarist. Like, ‘Done, idea, that’s it, it’s happening, let’s go.’ Really quick and really creative, so really able to respond to each thing in the track”. 20 years of music under his belt, ROMANTHONY showed the kind of drive, determination and talent that is responsible for turning him into an international superstar. McKay states in the interview “I love his songs. I’m just a total fan. It’s really, really fucking sad that he’s not going to write any more songs”, which is perhaps the exact sentiment friends, family, and fans all share.
With such an enormous and natural gift as that possessed by this late musical genius, it’s no doubt that music industry has been forever changed. However, McKay offers a glimpse of hope in saying “I’ve had a chance to speak to his family and his closest advisors and we’re going to carry on as we did before bringing his songs to a new generation of dance fans, with the proceeds going to look after his kids.”
