A Night In Review: Flosstradamus @ Club Nokia

1024 596 Tim Gauthier

flosstradamusclubnokia

“Club Nokia was the epicenter of Trap music Friday night, with big-time performances from AraabMuzik and Flosstradamus. There were also other great opening sets by Congorock, gLAdiator, Noizfiend, Alex Bustamove, and Mature Content. The night was full of the hard hitting bass and sway inducing beats that have become synonymous with the Trap sound. Araabmuzik was first to kick off the night and he didn’t disappoint.

Araabmuzik is the type of DJ who is so solid, that you know you’re going to have a good time no matter what when you listen to his music live. One of the reasons for this sure thing is that Araabmuzik mixes live using a MPC and so everything you are hearing is coming live from his hands to the speakers and then straight to your ears. Because every drum kick and sample is mixed live, it makes for a different type of set, where the beats and rhythm are on showcase instead of any big name song drops.

He opened his set with one of his tracks “Never Have to Worry,” and immediately the crowd started to get into what was a great constant track-to-track dance party. Araabmuzik showed great variety throughout the whole set, starting with slow deep bass only to speed up the tempo and then drop right back into a monster bass drop. Araab danced the night away while mixing but he never took his hands off the table and you could tell he enjoyed performing just as much as the audience enjoyed listening.  Towards the end of his set he introduced some noticeable tracks like Nero’s “Promises,” and Biz Markie’s “Let Me Clear My Throat.” All-in-all Araabmuzik’s set was a good mix of trap and other quicker electro beats.

Next up on the deck was headliner Flosstradamus. The DJ-duo is known for their hard hitting trap sets and that is exactly what they delivered. It was both a classic and unique set as the DJS dropped popular Trap tracks as well as some remixes that were unexpected. They opened up with Lana Del Rey’s “Videogames” and then mixed right into “Bugatti” by Ace Hood. Things got especially turned up when they dropped a trap remix of “Face Down, Ass Up” by Meek Mill and then launched into “What’s Your Fantasy” by Ludacris. In fact, Flosstradamus threw the beat down so hard during a mix of a new song with DJ Slink that the power actually blew out for a minute.

After the technical difficulty the duo launched back seamlessly into their set and hyped up the crowd with a remix of “Jah No Partial” by Major Lazer featuring Flux Pavillion. The rest of the set was a bevy of trap classics from Rick Ross, Waka Flacka, and Chief Keef to name a few. The highlight of the night was definitely when they dropped RL Grimes remix of “Satisfaction” by Benni Benassi and then spun right into a mix of Kanye West’s “Mercy,” and the classic techno song “Sandstrom,” by Darude.

Flosstradamus kept spinning through the night as they disappeared behind the fog that was being shot out in front of the DJ booth. When the lights hit the fog, it made them look even more awesome, as if they were illuminated in a cloudy rainbow of epic-ness.

It was a great night for trap music and EDM fans, and the crowd at Club Nokia seemed to be pleased, as they stayed through the night and seemed to dance forever.”  – Jenna Browning

“The track’s hip-hop basses combined with feel-good electronic synth melodies explains why these three dance pioneers should be ‘treated right’ by contemporaries throughout the rest of 2013”VIBE Magazine

Tune, Matisse and Jr. Flo – or Canadian electronic trio and burgeoning live-act KEYS N KRATES as they’re more widely known to the music world – have today released their latest single ‘TREAT ME RIGHT’ on Steve Aoki’s globallly-celebrated Dim Mak imprint.

The first track to be taken from their forthcoming ‘SOLOW’ EP, ‘Treat Me Right’ was initially premiered across the airwaves on Annie Mac’s taste-making BBC Radio 1 show on 8th February to a truly incredible reception. Since then, the iconic trap-tinged electronic/hip-hop monster has been enjoying hefty support from the online sphere and has become a mainstay in the sets of big hitters such as TNGHT, Diplo, Annie Mac and Salva (to name but a few) over the past few weeks.

Having been recently crowned #1 of Billboard’s official “Next Rising Artists” chart, Keys N Krates are also gearing up for high profile North American LIVE shows at SXSW Festival (Austin, Texas), Blue Martini (Tampa, FL), WMC (Miami, FL) and Blue Martini (Orlando, FL). Out Now: Showtek – Crunk / Slow Down

600 600 Tim Gauthier

[lightbox url=”http://itun.es/i6JR99W” width=”100%” height=”100%” iframe=”true”][/lightbox] [lightbox url=”http://btprt.dj/YsLak1″ width=”100%” height=”100%” iframe=”true”][/lightbox] [lightbox url=”http://spoti.fi/YazHmu” width=”100%” height=”100%” iframe=”true”][/lightbox] [lightbox url=”http://www.youtube.com/embed/videoseries?list=PLP3NmVJWzd3MoRYmg3dqb1t0rhs_L4J0t” width=”960″ height=”540″ iframe=”true”][/lightbox]

‘Crunk’ and ‘Slow Down’ are masterworks in varied and skilled production. ‘Crunk’ is an all-out high-octane jump house anthem and ‘Slow Down’ a heavy progressive track with a trance inspired melody. Both are so fully charged with filthy bass, piercing synths and huge vocals that they will have you cranking up the speed dial until you blow your speakers!

Never a pair to be tied down into any one field, these two mammoth records marks their musical transition and continued journey through the world of electronic dance music. They cite and utilise influences from rock and hip-hop to house and euphoria. This all combines in the Showtek way to create their unique sound!

‘Slow Down’ is not a phrase commonly used in Showtek’s dictionary. On only the eve of 2013, ‘Hey!’ was unleashed to the world and was met with the ravest reviews from fans and specialists all over the world. In a heartbeat, they then began one of the greatest podcasts in the electronic domain, propelling the Dutch brothers straight to the US – stunning fans from the East to the West. Whilst wowing overseas however, the two have held a special place for home fans that have shown continued support for their ground breaking Justin Prime collaboration. Keeping a firm position at No.5 in the Dutch Top 40, Showtek are rapidly becoming one of the greatest musical exports from the Netherlands and showing the rest of the world exactly why!
