Eight tracks of pure singer/songwriter ballads. Seattle players from Minus The Bear, Botch, Kill Sadie, and Sharks Keep Moving all play with singer/songsongwriter Tom Harpel, have come to create acoustic narratives of drinking whiskey, riding horses, and flying from coast to coast. At times it's reminiscent of the Beatles with a country twang much like Will Oldham and definitely some definition from Kenny Rogers. Cello, acoustic guitars, bass, twangy solos, and drums.. acoustic whispers with dramatic and ethereal cello playing, haunting because of its slow paced sounds, a bit poppier than that of Codeine but definitely eary in its approach. The vocals stand on its own and are clearly in the foreground of the music, country music is well compartmentalized in the process here. Desolate and inventive stretched out over an album of music, Onalaska really prove to spin webs of catchy misfortunes and tales of drinking under the table alone. Stagger with this one.
