Tomorrowland sells out BOTH weekends in less than an hour!

February 18, 2014 Dim Mak News Tags: , , , , , , , , , ,

Any serious festival goer has been in that situation where 6 of your friends are lined up on 8 different laptops and 10 different smart phones and which ever friend gets through the massive internet ticket cluster f*ck has sworn by oath to buy ALL the tickets for your crew.  So it makes sense that Hunger Games Tomorrowland edition was fought last Saturday(Feb. 16th) and sold out 360,000 tickets in less than an hour. This is the first year the festival is selling so many tickets because it is now 2 weekends.

Tomorrowland is the festival of all festivals, almost like the olympics of all the EDM festivals, so it makes sense for Dim Mak to have such a strong presence and a day long line up of artists. Everyone from Tai, Autoerotique, Carnage, Angger Dimas and Deorro have come out to make the Dim Mak party the best party at Tomorrowland and it’s sister festival TomorrowWorld. Last year at TomorrowWorld, Coone headlined the Hardstyle Stage and Steve Aoki headlined the Main Stage and Dim Mak stage two days in a row. To see what you missed, get motivated to go or feel sad about how you will never be able to afford it… Check out our Tomorrowland and our TomorrowWorld after movies.

Let’s get Uberjak’d

January 9, 2014 Tim Gauthier Interviews, News Tags: , , , , ,

uberjakd logo colorDim Mak Records is proud to welcome our newest artist Uberjak’d to the family! Uberjak’d is an Australian producer, who recently exploded onto the global electronic music scene with his electro-influenced Melbourne Bounce sound. This past year Uberjak’d mixed Australia’s #1 dance compilation Ministry of Sound The Annual and joined the nationwide tour, performed for 15,000 people at the Stereosonic festival, and celebrated his spot as the #1 podcast in Australia on iTunes, beating out Hardwell and Tiësto.

Uberjak’d is hoping to bring the Melbourne Bounce sound to the U.S. with the release of his upcoming EP on Dim Mak Records. Uberjak’d isn’t a stranger to Dim Mak, featuring on the Autoerotique Asphyxiation (Remixes) EP.

[highlight style=”default”][highlighttext title=”To find out more about this rising artist check out our exclusive interview!” titlesize=”h6″ subtitle=””][/highlighttext][/highlight]

1.    Hi Uberjak’d, welcome to Dim Mak! We’re excited to have you as part of our family. Can you tell us a bit about why you joined Dim Mak?

Thanks! Pleasure to be part of the family. I have always been a big fan of the label. I see Dim Mak as a label that isn’t afraid to push sounds that are new, fresh, or different from the normal.

2.    Describe your sound. Any artists and/or genres of music that have been particularly influential in your productions?

Melbourne Bounce obviously! I have been hooked on that sound ever since I discovered it while skipping class at uni to listen to music and as well as living in Adelaide. I wasn’t lucky enough to go check out this music in the clubs, so I had to compromise and downloaded the tunes off the Melbourne Bounce forums. At the time I’d heard nothing like this sound. This was the early days of the sound, so like Orkestrated, Kalus, Dean Del were all guys producing this underground, really techno-influenced electro. That was about five or six years ago, way before I even considered DJing myself. So fast forward a couple years and I had established myself as a DJ in my hometown Adelaide. I’d also been playing a few gigs in Melbourne and really wanted to put my own harder electro/rave influence on the Melbourne Sound, and I guess you will hear a lot of that sound on my new EP.

3.    You’ll soon be releasing an EP on Dim Mak followed by a spring U.S. tour. What can you tell us about the EP? How do you hope to impact the dance music scene in the U.S. through this new partnership with Dim Mak?

I’m stoked for this EP. It’s really an Uberjak’d & Friends EP with collaborations with Chardy, Krunk!, and Sarah Bodle supplying some amazing vocals for another. The first track with Sarah Bodle is a bit big room meets techno meets Melbourne. I was inspired in elements by the old anthem and one of my favorite tunes of all time “Stranger To Stability” (Len Faki Podium Mix). Sarah did a great job on the vocals and this is my second track with her, so we have worked together and she has also performed live at some of my shows. The track with Chardy, “All Aboard,” was something we wrote about eight months ago, but have kept it tight and I’m so stoked it’s coming out on this EP. That one is a bit hardstyle, a bit Melbourne. Not sure what it is, but I think that’s why I like it! The track with Krunk!, my boy back in Adelaide, is definitely hardstyle, but we really rip it back in the break and get melodic and chilled, so it’s a bit of a contrast. The final tune, “Static,” is a solo track and is rave vs. Melbourne. I like the riff in it, sort of reminds me of bag pipes. Maybe it’s some of my Scottish blood coming through in that track.

4.    There seems to be a surge of Australian producers taking over electronic music (Flume, Anna Lunoe, Will Sparks, the Stafford Brothers to name a few). What do you think is the reason for this? Do you feel that where you’re from has had an influence on your music in any way?

I think that Australia has always been a place that embraces and pushes forward-thinking sounds, which gives artists the freedom to do something different. I think where you live, more importantly the shows you perform as a DJ, has a huge effect on your sound. As a DJ, I want to make music that the fans at my shows enjoy, and different places always have a different vibe. Thanks to social media and SoundCloud, being so accessible these days and getting your sound out to people has never been easier.

5.     You’ve been at the forefront of the growing Melbourne bounce scene in Australia alongside artists like Will Sparks. Do you think the Melbourne Bounce sound will catch on in the U.S.?

Hahaha! I hope so! I guess if I love this music so much, if Australia loves it this much, then why can’t America or the world? Will Sparks has just returned from his tour and it looks like the reception for him and the sound was really good, so hopefully that’s a sign for good things. I think the great thing about EDM, as it’s known in the U.S., is that it’s about innovation and looking for something fresh. I guess electronic dance music has always been about that, so I hope that people are up for this sound. A funny thing is that when I first started to play Melbourne Bounce outside of Melbourne, there was a track I played at my gigs. I won’t name the artist or the track, but it’s now a bit of an anthem over here. I used to play the track at my gigs and literally people would walk off the dance floor. They didn’t understand it and it was something so different to what they have heard or were used to. About 6-8 months later, people are requesting it on their phones during gigs and they know all the lyrics to it and can’t get enough of the track. So what I’m saying basically is you might not love Melbourne Bounce the first time you hear it…but you will eventually.

 6.    You recently did a remix for Autoerotique’s “Asphyxiation,” which was released on Dim Mak Records this past July. Can you tell us more about that remix? What can you tell us about your remix process?

Yeah, I actually had a lot of fun remixing that one! I guess when approaching a remix, you don’t want to change the essence of what makes that track great. For me, it was those chords and the vocal, so I knew I had to keep them. And then it’s just a matter of adding your flavor to it because that’s why someone would want you to do a remix. Some advice to producers and DJs: If a label asks you to remix in a certain style to fit their remix pack, don’t do it. A remix is about adding your style, find what makes your sound unique and use the shit out of it!

7.    Dream collaborations? Any Dim Mak artists you’d like to collaborate with in the future? A certain Steve perhaps?

Ohh yeah! Of course I would love to collab with the big man! I have a collab with Deorro as well, which started when we were both in Amsterdam for ADE last year, as well as a collab I started with Autoerotique. So maybe keep an ear out for them in 2014.

8.    You recently posted on Facebook, “I think 2014 will be the year of deep house and hard style…” Why do you say this and what’s your take on the future of EDM?

I always say this, but what I mean is not that all DJs will start playing this style, but it will influence what is popular. I think we have already seen the big hardstyle kick thing go crazy, and I think the groove-driven vibe of deep house will somehow start being heard more in different genres. Innovation is what makes music so interesting. A few people have asked me, “Why no Melbourne Bounce??? ” Of course I hope it has a big year for all my boys in Australia. There is so much talent here with guys like J-Trick, Joel Fletcher, Reece Low, Chardy, and SCNDL. I think it’s time we all came over to the US to show you how we do it!

Autoerotique – NASTY

Autoerotique continues to be a powerhouse for production, performance, and panache. Though his most recent release, “LZR BASS”, may qualify as an eighth step back in intensity from this year’s favorite, “Asphyxiation”, it can still only be described as an unrelenting electro house track. Full alarms blaring, no bass retreating, that’s Autoerotique’s style.

Safe to say that “Nasty” furthers his signature style and jocular attitude. The track plays host to a dominating vocal chorus, “I Like It Nasty”, which sounds rather like Siri (if we are picking from well-kown female robotic voices).

[Rolling Stone] Dim Mak Artists Go Crazy at TomorrowWorld EDM Festival

December 10, 2013 Tim Gauthier Music, News, Video Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

On September 27th, the electronic music festival TomorrowWorld brought its transcendent chaos to Chattahoochee Hills in Atlanta, Georgia. Now fans can experience the sensory overload with the new “Up All Night TomorrowWorld” video, which condenses the hectic…

[THUMP VIDEO] Real talk with over 20 of Toronto’s dance music gurus.

In mere days from now—November 4 through 9, to be exact—a selection of finalists from around the world will touch down in Toronto for the Red Bull Thre3style World Finals, the globe’s best DJ competition actually geared towards the dancefloor. But it’s not like the Canadian capital needs any talent imported. Many of the DJs/producers currently blowing up the club scene worldwide originate in the T… and you may not even know it.

In this video, Brooklyn-based DJ Jubilee—a Thre3style judge who has played in Canada so many times she’s practically half-maple—visits over 15 of her Toronto-based friends, including Dim Mak superstars Keys N Kratesand Autoerotique, bass dudes Hunter Siegel and Marcus Visionary, techno leading lights Gingy and Alixander III (of Azari & III), and frequent Thre3style performers GrandtheftThugli, and Skratch Bastid, among many others. Along the way we discover that the Toronto dance music scene is a fractured but lovable family—most of these producers have worked together, lived together, thrown parties together, or gotten in fights with each other at one point or another, whether they’re deep in the techno game or banging out the hardest trap sounds.

Watch See You in Toronto to find about Torro Torro’s secret love affair with pigs, why Bruce Trail is a wizard, who throws the best afterparties, how Autoerotique gets erotic, and why Hamilton is the darkest place on the planet Earth, among other secrets of the city’s dance music elite.

Steve Aoki announces additional Dim Mak support acts for Aokify America Tour!

September 19, 2013 Tim Gauthier News Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

As he prepares to hit the road once again this fall, Grammy-nominated international producer/DJ and electronic dance music entrepreneur STEVE AOKI has announced additional support acts for his upcoming Aokify America Tour. For the tour, AOKI has drafted an elite group of artists from the DIM MAK roster—the independent record label, events and lifestyle company, and apparel line he founded in 1996 and presenting partner of the tour—including Felix Cartal, Autoerotique, Dirtyphonics, Keys N Krates, Garmiani, Deorro, Rune RK, and Botnek as well as a new, specially designed production from performer Kryoman entitled HEX3D. Already featuring a stellar lineup with bass “Legend” Borgore and hip-hop heavyweight Waka Flocka Flame as direct support, with special guest Pharrell Williams (The Neptunes/N.E.R.D.) appearing on select dates, the Aokify America Tour stands as one of the highlights on this year’s touring circuit. Tickets for the Aokify America Tour are on sale now: aokifyamerica.com.

Screen Shot 2013-09-19 at 11.20.06 AMThe newly confirmed rotating talent on the Aokify America Tour adds a diverse array of artists spanning a wide spectrum of electronic music styles. Coming off his most successful release to date with the Past, Present, Felix EP on Dim Mak Records—praised by ENTERTAINMENT TONIGHT and BILLBOARD.COM, who called featured track New Scene” “one of the best dance recordings of the year”—Felix Cartal brings his signature electro house sounds. Toronto-based electro producer Autoerotique adds a heavier sound to the mix, best exemplified on the latest track“Play It Again” and the recent Asphyxiation (Remixes) EP, both out now on Dim Mak Records. Featured on AOKI’s Deadmeat Tour in 2012, French electronic dance music quartet DIRTYPHONICS return with their trademark heavy bass heard on their debut full-length album Irreverence and the corresponding No Stopping Us (Remixes) EP, both available now on Dim Mak Records. Dubbed “EDM’s hottest live band” by BILLBOARD.COM and featured by USA Today, Toronto-based live electronic outfit Keys N Krates recently released their SOLOW EP on Dim Mak Records, which highlights their trap-tinged electronic/hip-hop hybrid sound. Also featured on the tour are producers GarmianiDeorro, house/techno artist Rune RK, and production/DJ duo Botnek. Additionally, performer Kryoman introduces his innovative production setup HEX3D on the Aokify America Tour, which pushes the boundaries of live, audiovisual performance art.

The new talent is not the only major tour announcement being made though. A proponent of pro-social causes and a philanthropist in his own right, AOKI’s Steve Aoki Charitable Fund is donating a dollar for every ticket sold throughout the tour to a charity selected by his fans via Facebook. Furthermore, for every year AOKI has been alive, he will match a corresponding $1,000 for a total of $36,000 on the tour. Fans will be encouraged to vote for their chosen charity from a group of four pre-selected organizations, including: American Brain Foundation, committed to curing brain disease; University of Rochester – Memory Care Program, providing diagnosis, treatment, and care of neurodegenerative conditions that affect the elderly and the aging nervous system; Brain Preservation Foundation, evaluating “plastination” and “cryonics,” two ways doctors might inexpensively preserve the brain of a dying person; and Infusio, pushing the fusion of cutting-edge science and the newest developments in complementary medicine placed in a spa-like healing environment. Fans can vote via a dedicated poll on STEVE AOKI’s official Facebook page (www.facebook.com/Steve.Aoki) starting October 9 through November 23. Following the tour, AOKI will hand deliver the check to the chosen charity. For more information, visit: www.steveaokifund.com.

Meanwhile, STEVE AOKI is dominating the music world with the massive Linkin Parkcollaboration “A Light That Never Comes,” out now on Warner Bros. Records, and“Boneless,” a collaboration with Chris Lake and Tujamo (Ultra Music), which hit #1on Beatport.

Tomorrowland 2013 Aftermovie Released

September 11, 2013 Cubby News Tags: , , , , ,

One of the most renowned festivals in the world, Tomorrowland invites the worlds premiere DJs to perform under a dazzling array of sights and sounds. The Belgian festival got a taste of Dim Mak this past year, with the label’s very own Up All Night stage on the first day. Featuring the likes of Steve Aoki, Joachim Garraud, Dirtyphonics and Angger Dimas, the Up All Night stage left thousands of festivalgoers shocked, stirred, and satisfied. Aoki‘s closing set will go down as one of the highlight moments in Tomorrowland history, and it will be exciting to see what he has in store for the future.

ig_tomorrowworldThe aftermovie encapsulates all three legendary days of the festival, assembled into over a half hour of brilliant footage and tracks from the DJs in attendance. Dim Mak has two songs in the aftermovie, one of which being “We Are Legend” by labelhead Steve Aoki and partners in crime Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike. This new collaboration is a peaktime progressive anthem that is bound to make serious waves on the charts. The other Dim Mak track featured is “Feedback” by Steve Aoki & Autoerotique vs Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike which is screamingly intense electro at its finest.

While Tomorrowland has come to a close for 2013, Dim Mak Records is looking forward to the festival coming across the Atlantic to Atlanta, Georgia. The inaugural edition of Tomorrowworld will feature an Up All Night stage much like its predecessor at Tomorrowland. Dim Mak is ready to show America what it has in store for both returning Tomorrowland fans as well as participants experiencing Up All Night for the first time at the end of September.

Nobody does up all night DIRTY like the Dim Mak boys at Beatpatrol Festival 2013. In fact, if we were to rate the content of this video according to tit size, we’d say it’s pretty much THE DOUBLE DEEZ. Witness Tai, Deorro, Datsik, Autoerotique, Angger Dimas, South Central, Dirtyphonics, Proxy, Haezer, and the boss man himself Steve Aoki, as they bring the party to Europe, Dim Mak style, in Part I of our Beatpatrol 2013 series. We’re talking vodka flowing like wine, bottles poppin’, hot girls, fire explosions, crowd-surfing, pulsing lights, heavy beats…in the words of Autoerotique, “EDM man, this is all EDM right here.” Erotic Drunken Mayhem? We’ll let you be the judge! Stay tuned for Beatpatrol Part II as the Dim Mak crew takes their 48-hour European all nighter to the next level!

You won’t want to miss this exclusive interview with rapidly evolving DJ god Autoerotique as he gives Aoki the 4-1-1 on his hot new single “Apshyxiation.” Not only has the track blown up the Beatport charts in recent days, but it’s also launched viral web buzz with the incredibly erotic (no pun intended) music video featuring a bunch of scantily clad sex vixens playing an intense game of dodgeball. In other news, Autoerotique dishes on the recent remix EP for his Beatport-charting collaboration single with Felix Cartal, “The Alarm.” Be sure to head over to Autoerotique’s artist profile on the Dim Mak website to check out all of his latest releases and follow him on Twitter (@autoerotique) as he keeps making moves.

Artist Spotlight: AutoErotique ‘Asphyxiation’

AutoErotique‘s breathtaking new single “Asphyxiation” undoubtedly lives up to it’s name. This pulsating electro track will have you gasping for air but wanting more as you fight back the urge to get up and dance.

No strangers to the production game, the widely inspired Toronto based duo have been behind the scenes producing various genres of music for years before officially joining the dance music community and singing to Dim Mak Records in early 2009. Every track AutoErotique puts out showcases the perfect blend of electro, techno, house, Dutch house, Dutch-colonial house, rave, rock, rave-rock, indie-rock, and even ska inspired elements.

Gladiator, AutoErotique’s first single released on Dim Mak Records in September 2009, received immediate attention from the likes of Steve Aoki, DJ AM, Klever, Larry Tee/Alexander Technique, The Faint, AC Slater, and Milano whom have all remixed the epic track, making AutoErotique a heavyweight name in the EDM scene. AutoErotique has since showed off their ambiguous musical talents with their own remixes for Benny Benassi, Felix Luker, Tiesto, Etienne de Crecy, Joachim Garraud, Sarah McLeod, Lykki Li, Shinichi Osawa, Chris Cornell & Timbaland, Diplo & Laidback Luke, Larry Tee, B. Rich, Disco Bisquits, Fischerspooner and Weezer. A recent collaboration with fellow Dim Mak artist Felix Cartal has given birth to the stellar summer single “The Alarm”, which is scheduled to be released June 6th on Dim Mak Records.

The sexy ass-filled video for “Asphyxiation” will premiere on May 28th and the track will also be available for purchase on iTunes and Beatport.

Are you in desperate need for some super sexy .gifs? You may not know it, but the answer is YES, yes you are. And have we got just the thing for you. In honor of the music video for Autoerotique’s “Asphyxiation” reaching #2 on the BeatPort Electronica Chart, we present you with 22 .gifs depicting some of the most stunning dodgeball players in history; girls doing flips and being all around badasses, guys getting hit in their tender bits by dodge balls, and lots of slow motion bouncing. My personal favorite is the shark mascot tearing the head off the bald eagle mascot, but a close second would be the leader of the pack licking her hard-won trophy. Good luck figuring out which one is your top pick, and let us know which you choose in the comments below!

A few members from our team headed out from LA to the lone star state to help including #Jenks, Bryan (B!) Linares, Alexvnder, and others. Even our good friend NeilFavila.com made it!

The event served as a platform to showcase Dim Mak’s newest and long-term artists from near and far. We rallied in the troops for a roster that included Scanners, AutoErotique, PeaceTreaty, Azari & III, Keys N Krates, Will Brennan, New Ivory. Borgore and the Buygore camp presented Kennedy Jones, Ookay, & an epic Borgore x Carnage dj set. You know this was a party!

The Aoki Files *MIAMI EDITION* Episode #22 w/ Felix Cartal and AutoErotique

April 4, 2013 Tim Gauthier Video Tags: , , , , , ,

There is no such thing as ordinary in the world of Steve Aoki, especially when it comes time to interview Dim Mak Artists. This fact rings especially true for the 22nd episode of AOKI FILES Miami Edition where Steve talks to Felix Cartal and AutoErotique and tries to get a word in edgewise.

The two Canadian producers, who recently collaborated on the completely insane track “The Alarm”, discuss what it would be like if they did a country-wide tour together (it involves a small hatchback) and who deserves the credit for making the phenomenal “The Alarm” (Felix is pretty sure he deserves all the credit). Felix and Keith both drop some fresh-out-the-oven information about new tracks coming up as, well as upcoming collaborations with other huge names in the game. One thing is for sure, when these two mega-producers get together with an extremely excited Aoki, the outcome is sure to make you do some ball grabbing of your own.
