When I perform, I don’t think about the haters, the Internet trolls, or anyone else. I care about giving the person in front of me something they won’t forget. And that’s why I bring the cake and raft out.
Where do I begin?
I haven’t had a chance to really to speak about all the controversy around my on-stage entertaining: DJing vs. The Cake (which includes the cake, the raft, the champagne, the stage dives…the entertainment part of the show). The haters and the trolls have always used me as an excuse to make fun of something that is out of the ordinary, something that doesn’t necessarily make sense to them. For whatever reason, I have always been a target that people love to attack. From not being American enough as a kid growing up in an all-white neighborhood, to not being indie enough for the die-hard hipsters in my 20s and now today, not being a “real DJ” for the electronic music purists…

One thing you shouldn’t expect from your favorite producer is one hell of a throwing arm. Unless, of course, your favorite producer is STEVE AOKI-the chief of Dim Mak Records and the chief of “holy crap did you see that?!” Just three days ago at VELD FEST, Steve performed one of his high energy, no holds barred shows for thousands of fans, and probably every person in that crowd wanted their cake and wanted to eat it too! One fan, wheelchair bound, was raised up high over the crowd when time came for Steve to pick the lucky cake recipient. The thing is….the guy was impossibly far away from where Steve stood on his sound table. The other thing is that there is no such thing as “impossible” when it comes to Steve Aoki, and he hurled the cake with stunning accuracy; the cake spiraled perfectly and KERPOW! Smashed the happiest fan alive right in the kisser. This is a must-see video. Instead of choosing someone closer, Steve adhered to the wishes of a fan who had no doubt had his own trouble even getting there; giving us yet another stunning example of the love and lengths Steve goes through for his fans, who love him right back.
What happens in Vegas, ends up all over the internet and Vegas is no longer safe, which works out great as it served for a perfect location to have ourselves a little party. We teamed up with Joyrich for a cake filled celebration at The Act Nightclub in Las Vegas, where we showed off some of our new Dim Mak x Joyrich collab “Let Them Eat Cake” merch. With sounds pumping by Them Jeans, Kay, DJ Metric and hosted by Hannah Beth! A few of our friends Cobra Snake, Misha Janette, Mookee, Jonny Cota, Dork Dozier, Justin Barco + more came through and it took a lot of strength for us to not unleash a full on cake fight.

By now you’ve probably seen at least 750 renditions of the sensation that’s found its way throughout the worldwide web. Yes, we’re talking about the “Harlem Shake” YouTube phenomenon that has caught the country by storm. In an effort to keep things fresh and…
So we all know that Football is probably the best thing around right now and probably won’t be over anytime soon… But before everyone was sitting in the dark, we were in beautiful Hawaii for the NFL Pro Bowl. Steve took over the streets in Waikiki the night before with a street filled performance for the NFL block party. Kids filled the streets… traffic light climbers and all. Oh yeah… remember your first friend from Myspace? He was there too. But now that JT has a hold of it, Tom spends his time traveling the world and photographing some pretty epic shit. lol about his Instagram handle: “MYSPACETOM” but hey…If it weren’t for you Tom, we’d never get the opportunity to learn HTML, Thanks. Anyways, We were invited to the Pro Bowl Game at Aloha Stadium where Steve gave Football and the Stadium a little taste of icing (since we were told to withhold from throwing any cakes) which turned out to be a…hole in one.
We’d like to thank everyone that came out to the Dim Mak Stage at the 5th Annual Sunset Strip Music Festival two weeks ago. If you didn’t get the chance to make it out here is a wrap up of what went down on that glorious Saturday night.
We had our very own Dim Mak stage at the Roxy, featuring sets by some of our favorites including Clockwork, PeaceTreaty, Yung Skeeter and Bones. Along with performances on our stage, Steve Aoki’s headlining set was full of surprises including popping bottles with Lil Jon, girls crowd rafting, and special guest appearances by Travis Barker, Will.I.Am, and Miss Palmer. If that wasn’t enough Steve ended the show by diving into a 2,000 lb cake, dedicated to his 1 million fans on Facebook. We understand this madness sounds too good to be true, so here are a few photos of the madness and we also made sure to post all the pictures of the event on our official Facebook page for all you non-believers at home.
