If there’s one DJ that’s really making a mark on both EDM music and culture right now, it’s Carnage. With DJ support from Tiësto, Avicii, A-Trak, Porter Robinson, and Paul Oakenfold, to name a few, his own “Carnage Presents: INCREDIBLE” radio show on Sirius XM’s Electric Area, and his explosive performance at EDC 2013, Carnage has become an EDM icon – a trance god. In this fourteen minute documentary-style video, Carnage grants us an all-access, VIP backstage pass to his life as he parties on a first-name basis with heavy hitters like Tiesto and Morgan Page, takes his “trill as f*ck” grandma with him to EDC, lays down the beats in front of thousands of people, and describes the exhausting yet surreal journey he’s been on as he continues to, in his own words “do this for the people.” DISCLAIMER: only watch this video if you don’t mind hearing “twerk, turn up, and trill” used in the same sentence. But we know you love it.
With the recent release of His collab “Michael Jordan” with Tony Junior, which has received DJ support from tastemakers such as Martin Solveig who dropped it in his set at Tomorrowland over the weekend, Carnage’s star is rising to the top at an unprecedented speed.
CARNAGE TOUR DATES
Amongst this years EDC, Las Vegas line up Dim Mak’s very own Clockwork, Datsik, Bloody Beetroots (LIVE), DirtyPhonics (LIVE), Booka Shade, Terravita, Tommy Trash, and Proxy will be taking the stage. If you’ve ever experienced EDC, Las Vegas then you know first hand the excitement that occurs during the three day festival. This year the 17th annual Electric Daisy Carnival (EDC), Las Vegas, will feature over 500 creators from around the world including musical acts, artists, and theatrical performers to create the ultimate experience. You can view the official line up on the festivals official website.
Originally, I hadn’t planned on attending EDC – but a few days before the festival, my buddy Ryan gave me a proper pep-talk and convinced me to go, further telling me that “I wouldn’t be coming correct, If I didn’t attend”. It was decided, I was all-in for a bender of a weekend (which undoubtedly laid ahead). I reached out to my buddy Keith (Autoerotique), and sorted out credentials, so that I could bring my camera in without hassle. I’ve photographed numerous shows, gigs, festivals, etc…, but I’ve never been to / shot EDC. Naturally, I wanted to do something different with my photographs. A majority of the EDC photos that surface are typically edited in a similar manner, and shot from 1 or 2 perspectives: on stage (behind the dj) or from the crowd (facing the dj). In an effort to mix things up a bit, I decided to shoot the entire festival with my vintage 35mm film camera, while focusing on everything but the dj’s – more of a documentary approach.
