Tag: Hanging On Me
Now firmly cemented as one of the staple tracks in the Dirtyphonics discography, “Hanging On Me” made headlines earlier in 2013 for its huge dubstep sound. Now a number of versatile artists have lent their hands to remix this dancefloor devastator into wholly different creations.
It seems like producing a super legit remix of a DIRTYPHONICS track is like a right of passage only bestowed upon the most gifted of music makers, as witnessed by Kastle’s remix Dirtyphonics‘ “Hanging On Me”; laid back and fresh, “Hanging on Me (Kastle Remix)” is like a breath of clean air on this #dirty track. Kastle, who is known for infusing the sounds of R&B with edgier dubstep influences, sheds a whole new light with his chilled out rendition.
When it comes to heavy bass, haunting lyrics belted out with soaring vocals, dirty beats, and overall badassery…who do you turn to? If you didn’t answer DIRTYPHONICS, then you are wrong and need to reevaluate your life/music situation. The only way to make a DIRTYPHONICS song even dirtier is to add the talents of the cake lovin’ Borgore and trap producer extraordinaire Ookay; the results of such a collaboration can be heard in the Hardstyle-inspired remix these two heavy hitters produced on the Dirtyphonics track “Hanging On Me”. Full of subtle drops and vibey bass, “Hanging on Me (Borgore & Ookay remix)” is sexy and fun, which is just what we’d expect from a fusion of all this talent in one place.
Is there any sound so tough that a U.K. garage refix can’t turn into something pliable and seductive? Apparently, not, at least judging from the Los Angeles producer Kastle’s remix of “Hanging on Me,” a new song from the French quartet Dirtyphonics. Their recent singles have typically trod the line between headbanging and Ed Banging: “No Stopping Us,” featuring Foreign Beggars, was hip-house via Alice in Chains, while “Walk in the Fire” was forged of blast beats and chugging metal guitars. “Hanging on Me” is similar, marrying Master of Puppets-inspired twinned leads to a shuddering, dubsteppy cadence and topping it off with vocals from the Duke Spirit’s Liela Moss, who here sounds, improbably but intriguingly, a little like Cat Power imitating Ozzy Osbourne. In Kastle’s hands, though, the tune flashes back to 2-step’s glory days, complete with bouncy organ bass line and synths as bubbly as a freshly uncorked bottle of Dom. In contrast to 2-step’s habit of making chipmunks out of its singers, he plays Moss’ vocals relatively straight, save for a judicious bit of glottal chopping, but he strays from convention by briefly flipping the groove into a brittle triplet rhythm that’s halfway between trap and Schaffel. If you’ve ever dreamed of a Lex Luger/Superpitcher collaboration, here’s the next best thing. (via SPIN)
