Identity Festival Preview: We Talk With Steve Aoki, Nervo, Figo, Jessie And The Toy Boys and Others
By Catherine Downes

Identity Festival recently kicked off its 20-city tour of the United States, and it comes to Hollywood Palladium this Sunday.
LA Weekly talked to many of the biggest name performers and asked them a simple question:

Why should anyone come to see your set?

“If you know my music and you like my music, that’s the number one reason, because everything else is all based around that. I’m playing all my records, I’m playing a lot of new songs. And now, specifically, on this tour, I’m doing my new live show. And this live show is such a big deal that I can’t really bring it out on any other shows. So the only time you can actually see this live show is on this tour. My bus alone is full of technicians; I got visual, I got production, [I got] structural technicians. It’s like a big ordeal. I spent a lot of time and money to make sure the end outcome is epic.” – Steve Aoki

“IDENTITY” // THIS SUMMER’S TRAVELING ELECTRONIC MUSIC FESTIVAL ANNOUNCES THE HOLLYWOOD PALLADIUM AS THE NEW VENUE FOR LOS ANGELES METRO AREA SHOW SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 4

IDENTITY, presented by SKULLCANDY, will be relocating to the heart of Hollywood to take over the Palladium! Fans have communicated that the San Bernardino venue is too far out for the holiday weekend commute and traffic expected. The festival is excited to be in the thick of Hollywood for IDENTITY in its inaugural year.

Still happening Sunday, September 4, the show will feature performances inside and around the historic venue from Pretty Lights, Steve Aoki, Etienne de Crecy, Booka Shade, Pete Tong, Jessie and The Toy Boys, The Crystal Method and more. IDENTITY will be using for the festival area the main Palladium stage as the Skullcandy Main stage and the entire Palladium parking lot for the Rockstar Dim Mak stage. The Advent Stage is TBD at this time.

Steve Aoki Interview with Miami New Times

Tim Gauthier

Miami New Times managed to get Steve on the phone for a Q&A while on tour for Identity Festival…Steve gives some insight on his live show, the Dim Mak stage, and the Dim Mak pop-up shop.

“Oh, yeah. On this tour, I’m debuting my live show. And I’ve been working on it for the last three or four months. It’s just structurally and visually awesome. The lighting and what I brought to the stage is something unique that I can only do on a tour like Identity.”

“No Beef” hits #1 on Beatport

Tim Gauthier

Since debuting at #28 on the Beatport Top 100 charts, “No Beef” has quickly climbed to #1. This is the first time Steve Aoki has made it to #1 and will be the first Dim Mak artist to accomplish the feat.

This massive track has been featured in the live sets of Afrojack and Steve Aoki throughout the year but no one could get a hold of a clean mix until last week and since its release, the internet has been buzzing! The single was previously only available on Beatport but is being released on iTunes tomorrow (Tuesday, August 16, 2011)

“No Beef” also hits #3 on Cool Cuts Chart

The Cool Cuts is the UK’s leading tastemaker dance chart compiled from reactions from tastemaker DJs and the Cool Cuts panel, now in it’s 23rdyear. The Cool Cuts is exclusively published in MUSIC WEEK, the UK’s leading music industry trade publication. www.musicweek.com
