#TBT to when Deorro went by Tonic

April 17, 2014 Dim Mak #ThrowbackThursday Tags: , , ,

With 4 albums under his belt and a new single “All I Need Is Your Love” with Adrian Delgado climbing iTunes charts, we are celebrating our favorite panda faced DJ and where he started from with our favorite Tonic throw back tracks.  To some people Deorro is a new name but he has actually been in the game for a very long time. Now with songs like Dechorro reaching #1 on Beatport its easy to forget those Myspace days that Tonic planted the seeds for. Deorro started under the name Tonic and was creating a lot of traction in the Los Angeles party scene.  Due to legal issues he had to change his name to Deorro but he still kept his distinct dirty dutch sound.  Have a walk down memory lane with our favorite tracks and be sure to download his new single with Adrian Delgado, “All I Need Is Your Love.”

If you’ve been a fan of Dim Mak for awhile now, the name Kele Okereke probably rings a bell. If it doesn’t, the name Bloc Party definitely should. Kele is the frontman for award-winning British rock band Bloc Party who released their self-titled EP on Dim Mak back in 2004! Bloc Party also performed at our beloved #DimMakTuesdays at Cinespace and we’ll always consider them to be a special part of the Dim Mak family.

Kele is currently touring North America in support of his “Heartbreaker” EP, out now on Crosstown Rebels and available on Beatport. The album features four tracks that display Kele’s love for underground electronic dance music. Here’s a quote from Kele about the EP:

“I’ve always loved the inclusive and spiritual nature of house music, so the opportunity to make music for the most iconic and influential house music label in the UK is a dream come true for me.”

On Monday, February 10th, we are honored to be hosting this talented musician at Sound Nightclub where Kele will be performing a special dj set. The event is FREE with RSVP – head to dimmakevents.com to get on the guest list!

[#DimMakTuesdays] Meet Nat Self a.k.a. Zombie Disco Squad of Dirtybird Records!

November 29, 2013 Tim Gauthier #FreeFriday, #ThrowbackThursday, News Tags: , , , , , ,

This coming #DimMakTuesday, we are proud to host London DJ & producer Nat Self a.k.a. Zombie Disco Squad of San Francisco tech funk label Dirtybird Records!

Barely into his thirties, Z.D.S. has already collaborated with the likes of Classic Records (brainchild of definite house elder statesmen Luke Solomon and Derrick Carter), Spanish techno/house label Suara, and Chicago booty bass don DJ Funk and UK soul legend Omar to name a few.  On December 3rd, Z.D.S. brings his signature tech-house sound to our beloved #DimMakTuesdays. Joining Z.D.S. on the decks is LA-based producer Matthew Wasley a.k.a. Human Life (Hot Creations // Defected) whose sound, which combines the best of the underground and the overground without contriteness or awkwardness, has caught the attention of French legend Alan Braxe, the iconic Pete Tong, A-Trak, & others.
