Dim Mak Studios Voted Top “Club Party” of 2011

Tim Gauthier

L.A. Weekly has presented us with a great year-end update: We have been elected as one-of-the top club parties in Los Angeles for 2011!!! Ranked in at number 5, here is what their staff had to say about our weekly event:

“Haters will hate, especially when it comes to successful DJs and their long-running “hipster” haps. Say what you will about Steve Aoki, he’s done something very, very right with his Dim Mak empire. We’ve been writing about the guy since well before he started his popular Tuesday night at Cinespace, and at the height of its popularity, too. Believe that his enthusiasm for music and people is 100% real, not douchey. Dim Mak Studios took over the back room at Cinespace last year, and continues to bring out the biggest names in rock and electronic music.”

For you L.A. Natives, be sure to check out our weekly event, Dim Mak Studios, hosted every Tuesday off Hollywood Blvd. After 7 strong years, carrying a notable history of major headlining and supporting acts like Daft Punk, Lady Gaga, Kanye West, Lil Jon, and Justice, we are only setting our paces to hosting your most memorable night.

Tim Gauthier

Update: Thank you to the current 90,000 fans that helped keep this video viral! Let’s keep the Black Flags movement alive, share this video across your social media networks!!

With the release of their 3rd viral-video edit, ATARI TEENAGE RIOT is calling all musicians, artists, music fans to SUPPORT WIKILEAKS!

“WikiLeaks is under attack by the big financial services companies , but there are still ways you can beat them.

As a result of exposing U.S. embassies from around the world, five major US financial institutions, VISA, MasterCard, PayPal, Western Union and the Bank of America, have tried to economically strangle WikiLeaks The attack has blocked over 95% of our donations, costing tens of millions of dollars in lost revenue. The attack is entirely political. In fact, in the only formal review to occur, the US Treasury found that there were no lawful grounds to add WikiLeaks to financial blockade .

Your donations are vital to pay for our fight against this and other kinds of censorship, for Wikileaks’ projects, staff, servers and protective infrastructure. We are entirely supported by the general public.” http://shop.wikileaks.org/donate

Be apart of this movement, and donate your own footage to Atari Teenage Riot! Your contribution will be selected for an addition to their next VIRAL VIDEO!

Zeds Dead – “Toronto producers riding the rave revival wave”
If you needed further proof that the music industry as we knew it has changed forever, consider the example of Toronto electro/dubstep producers Zeds Dead.

The YouTube clip of their bootleg remix of Blue Foundation’s Eyes On Fire has had well over 18 million views since October 2009, yet it only recently became available for sale. As you might suspect, despite their success, they’re not getting rich off selling records, but who is any more?

Felix Cartal’s “Don’t Turn On The Lights” now featured on Beatport

Tim Gauthier

Felix Cartal is first of all an amazing producer. His second album really showcases his pop side of his production. What you get in his track ‘Don’t Turn On the Lights’ is huge massive drops you would hear in his original productions previous to this, but now with a huge vocal…We crown this one mental.—Steve Aoki, Founder of Dim Mak Records.

We couldn’t be more excited for this release, as it represents Felix Cartal’s first step in his massive brand new sound. “Don’t Turn On The Lights” is a club-thumping track that features vocals from Polina, a vocalist who’s collaborated with both Steve Aoki and Kaskade. “‘Don’t Turn On The Lights’ is a chance for me to try some more memorable melodies,” says CARTAL. “I really wanted to create something that people could hum along to, something that they would recognize instantly, but still with powerful, hard-hitting production behind it. Polina’s vocals really helped bring this song together to make it one of the catchiest songs I feel that I’ve ever produced.”

Want more Felix? Who doesn’t… Check out more from the single, including the up-coming video for “Don’t Turn On The Lights”, filmed by David McDonald in Vancouver, Canada.
